Biography

Jack began his musical journey early in life by enrolling in his school’s violin lessons when he was 7 years old. At age 11 he switched to guitar as his main instrument and instantly fell in love. He began playing guitar for hours on end, day in and day out. In addition to playing with the jazz bands at school, he played in numerous rock bands in his free time throughout his junior high and high school years and began gigging around Boise.

In his first year attending Reed College in Portland, OR, Jack decided he wanted to follow his passion and pursue a career in music. He quickly switched from a psychology major to a music major. Throughout his years at Reed he sang with the choir, played in the jazz combo, organized numerous extracurricular student bands, worked as a sound technician for on-campus concerts, organized an on-campus music festival, and focused his academic studies on music theory and composition. In 2014 he was awarded a grant by the school to compose five fugues in the style of Bach arranged for two electric guitars, electric bass, and drum kit. For his senior thesis project, he composed an album of original music and he recorded and released that album during the following summer. Immediately after graduating from the school, Jack was contracted by the music department as a private guitar and bass instructor. He taught at Reed College from 2015 to 2017.

While attending Reed, Jack began studying Portland-based guitar virtuoso Scott Pemberton, who became one of his greatest musical mentors. After graduating, Jack began touring with Scott’s band as a bassist and vocalist. Jack has continued to tour with the group even after relocating to Boise. In total, he has worked over 250 shows with the band in just a few short years.

Jack founded East Boise Music in 2018 and hopes to offer quality musical education to the area for years to come.
